Thermopower Study of Local Hydrogen Content in Rapidly Quenched Zr — Ni Ribbons

Abstract

The introduction of hydrogen was found to influence strongly the thermoelectric power (TEP) of glassy Zr-Ni alloys. Based on this finding, a local TEP probe allowed us to establish that in a transient stage of the hydriding process performed at constant temperature and H2 gas pressure, the amount of hydrogen absorbed by different parts of the ribbon may vary from about H/M=0.2 to H/M=0.9 even if the maximum H-absorption capacity (H/M ≈ l) turned out to be fairly homogeneous.
