Standard versus actual changes in gas phase reactions

Abstract

The actual change of the thermodynamic functions, defined as the difference between the equilibrium and initial states in gas phase is analysed and interpreted. The relation between the standard and actual changes, as well as the effect of temperature, pressure and the initial amount of substances on the actual changes are derived and illustrated. It is shown, that these functions are important in understanding and interpreting the energetics of the processes actually taking place.
