Abstract

The operational mechanisms of ion-selective electrodes are discussed, in order to provide a guide for further technological development. The concepts of equivalent circuits are outlined. Factors which cause deviation from Nernstian response, the mechanisms behind the formation of potentials, and the causes of anomalies in electrode responses are described.
