Theoretical description of the deformation taking place in an impression test

Abstract

Superplastic Al alloys were investigated by impression creep test. Metallographic pictures taken in the course of the test from the deformed region situated just below the punch show that the rolling bands become bent by the deformation, and considering the deviation of the curved bands from the original bands, the local deformation can be deduced. Using these data and the result of unidirectional tensile test the local stress distribution can also be determined, on the basis of the principle of equivalent work. The validity of the results obtained on the basis of local deformations are supported by energetic estimations.
