Abstract

One of the biggest concerns regarding autonomous vehicles is their application level safety. While the functional components and systems can be well checked against current standards, the automotive industry and research lacks consistent and exhaustive test method for validation and verification of safe decision making of autonomous functions. Given the current development pace of the field, these engineering features will get into production very soon, therefore this issue needs to be addressed in a systematic manner, relying on the existing and upcoming safety protocols. This paper lists the technical requirements towards the L2-L3 autonomous systems to overcome the typically dangerous traffic situations.
