The emf response of ion exchanger type ISEs (which include actually the neutral carrier and charged carrier ISEs) in mixed solutions of a primary and interfering ion has been recently derived by Bakker et al. We have summarized and analyzed these results. An attempt has been made to keep the essential parts of the treatment very simple but at the same time exact. This should help the wide acceptance of the results. Our conclusions are naturally only valid if the ISE behaves as an ion-exchanger and all other assumptions are fulfilled.
