Abstract

The formation and development of storms depends upon many factors, among others upon heat and water availability of the soil. Many aspects of the storm-soil relationship are still unknown. In this study, the sensitivity of precipitation characteristics (areal distribution and intensity) and the vertical velocity of air in the clouds to soil hydraulic properties (hydrophysical parameters, areal distribution of soil moisture content and parameterization of soil moisture content at field capacity) were investigated. Numerical experiments were performed using the MM5 mesoscale model system, while the results were plotted using a HAWK work station. The comparative analysis was performed visually. Two storm events occurring in the Tiszántú l region were analyzed: one on August 7, 2006, the other on July 24, 2007.
