Abstract

Thick filaments consisting probably of myosin could be identified regularly in both untreated and atropine-pretreated stretched longitudinal smooth muscles of guinea pig ileum. In cells of unstretched muscles thick filaments occurred only sporadically. Our findings suggest the importance of the physiological tonus in the formation of myosin filaments.
