Abstract

In the last two decades assisted reproductive technology has revolutionized infertility treatment. These techniques could not have been developed unless preceeded by the enormous development and spread of ultrasound technology. The ever improving resolution of transvaginal probes as well as the use of color Doppler imaging have made this techniques the method of choice for the investigation of pelvic organs. The endometrium, the pathology of the ovaries and their cyclic changes can be well followed with transvaginal ultrasonography. The efficacy of ovulation induction, which could formerly be investigated only measuring the hormonal answer, can be visualized now. Ultrasound guided puncture in assisted reproductive technology is a routine method nowadays, and has replaced invasive techniques applied earlier. Using the transvaginal Doppler duplex system the functional changes caused by hormonal ones can be followed and the chance of implantation predicted.
