The Ginzburg-Landau equation as a consequence of the second law

Abstract

The Ginzburg-Landau equation is derived from the second law. The suggested thermodynamic approach applies Liu's procedure with a configurational state space containing derivatives of the basic state variable up to the third order. Some generalizations are suggested.
