The energy levels of Er3+ ion in yttrium aluminum borate (YAB) single crystals

Spectroscopic investigation of erbium (Er) in yttrium aluminum borate (YAB) single crystals was carried out. Er-doped YAB was grown by the top-seeded flux method. The energy levels and Stark conmponents of 12 transitions were identified in the absorption spectra. The number and shape of the spectral lines indicated that the Er+3 ions were built into one specific lattice site without aggregation at high dopant concentrations.
