Abstract

The authors investigated the efficacy of the 3-6-monthly per os and transdermal oestrogen replacement therapy on the levels of plasma lipoproteins in women who have undergone hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy. Treatment I group received 2 mg estradiol tablets each days, treatment II group received patches, delivering 50 μg/day estradiol. Serum total cholesterol, high-density cholesterol and serum total trigliceryde was measured before the begin of the therapy and after 3 and 6 months. Both treatment regimens significantly lowered the level of plasma total cholesterol and low-density cholesterol. Plasma total trigliceryde level increased in the per os group, but not changed in the transdermal group. Recently the oestrogen replacement therapy is important factor in primary and secondary cardioprevention. The prevention has very important role of the menopause units of the gynecologic departments.
