The effect of the neonatal testosterone treatment on the postnatal cell formation of the rat brain

Abstract

There is a significant postnatal cell formation throughout the hypothalamus of female rat during the first 2 postnatal weeks. The postnatal cell formation and the morphological development of the ependyma in the dorsal part of the third ventricle ended by the 14th day, but the ventral part continued to develop after the end of the second week as well. The testosterone treatment had an effect not only on the postnatal cell formation of several nuclei of the hypothalamus, but also on that of the other parts of the limbic system.
