The supposedly hepatotoxic action of rifampicin and isoniazid was investigated in 130 Black C57 mice. Examination under the light microscope revealed degenerative changes in the liver cells and focal necroses. They occurred significantly more frequently in the drug-treated mice than they did in the control group. The changes were generally of minor degree. Examination under the electron microscope showed hypertrophy of the Golgi apparatus, proliferation of the RES, damage to the bile duct and histochemical signs of increased enzyme activity.
