Abstract

The ion exchange of manganese(II) ions is studied on the surface of calcium-montmorillonite in the presence of EDTA as a complex-forming agent at different pH values. The composition of the solution was found to affect the interlayer composition of montmorillonite in a high, and at low pH, unexpected degree. The conditions needed for the desorption of hydrogen and other cations from the surface of montmorillonite are given.
