Abstract

The authors describe serous neurosensory detachments of the macula in three patients with severe preeclampsia in the background of visual symptoms, diagnosed by optical coherence tomography (OCT), which is a new, non-invasive examinaton method for the posterior eye segment. The alterations observed were bilateral in two patients, causing symptoms in both eyes in one case and only unilateral symptoms in the other case. Based on their observations, the authors recommend the use of non-invasive OCT in preeclamptic patients with visual disturbances.
