Coordinated o-benzoquinone diimine and 4-methyl-o-benzoquinone diimine in [Co(diimine)3JPF6 (1) undergo facile cheletropic reaction with triphenylphosphine to give first 2, 3-dihydro-l, 3, 2-λ5-benzo-diazaphospholes (2), which on decyclization result in the equilibrium products N-(2-aminophenyl)iminotriphenylphosphorane (3a) and N-(2-amino-4-methylphenyl)iminotriphenylphos-phorane (3b) respectively in moderate yields.
