Abstract

The blood CO Hb content of 50 cigarette smoking donors was assayed. In almost one third of the subjects the CO Hb content of the blood exceeded 5% at the time of blood withdrawal. In heavy smokers it exceeded 10%. Stored blood of 25 heavy smokers was estimated at the time of blood withdrawal and after 3 or 6 days' standard storage. The CO Hb content was found to be 8.02% on blood withdrawal, 7.42% after 3 days and 7.13% after 6 days of storage.
