Abstract

In the course of our investigations of the oxalic acid-acetone mixed substrate Belousov-Zhabotinskii (BZ) system, we have observed a pause of oscillation and an induction period, depending on the initial composition. The length of the first oscillating period decreases with an increasing initial acetone concentration until the pause turns into an induction period. Both kinds of quiescent periods are excitable by bromide ions.
