Abstract

The authors present their seven years experience with laparoscopic retroperitoneal nephrectomy. Retroperitoneoscopic simple nephrectomy is indicated in the patient with symptomatic a small kidney, end stage, kidney with benign pathology. They put a home made dilatation balloon into the retroperitoneum through the superior lumbar triangle, after a 2 cm skin incision. The direct posterior approach during retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy facilitates early visualization of the renal artery. The renal artery and vein and the ureter are easily ligated. They did not have any intra- or postoperative serious complications of their 26 cases. The average operative time was 2 hour. The patients were discharged from the hospital on the second postoperative day. The retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy is a very feasible approach with high tolerability for the patients.
