Target atomic number dependence of projectile excitation cross sections of He-like iron ions

Abstract

The 1s2→1s2s, 1s2→1s2p, 1s2→1s3s and 1s2→1s3p excitation cross sections of 400 MeV Fe24+ ions impinging on target atoms have been calculated in the distortion approximation. The calculated results indicate that the cross section tends to approach to a constant value with increasing target atomic number. The present results are in good agreement with experimental results as well as other theoretical models.
