Abstract

Thermo-reversible polymer crosslinks can be synthesized using cationic cyclopentadienyl in the case of PVC with increased content of loose chlorine and polychloroprene. Reversible dimerization of cyclopentadienyl groups attached to the polymer chain was verified by observing the break-down of crosslinks after the addition of strong dienophil reagents. The thermal stability of the modified polymers increased as a result of exchange between the loose chlorine atoms and cyclopentadienyl group. However, due to the presence of the oxygen sensitive cyclopentadienyl groups, a decrease in the thermooxidative stability can be observed.
