Abstract

The analgetic effects and kinetics of action of morphine, azidomorphine, fentanyl, pethidine and codeine in mice, as well as their contraction reducing effect on guinea pig ileum, were studied. I.V. doses of azidomorphine, fentanyl, pethidine and codeine were found to exert a 168, 147, 1.4 and 0.27 times stronger effect than morphine, respectively, whereas in the case of intraventricular doses these values were reduced to 3.8, 3.7, 0.032 and 0.035, respectively. There is a reasonable correlation between the analgetic effect of the drugs studied at intraventricular administration and their depressant effect in long muscle strip of guinea pig ileum, with the exception of fentanyl.
