Abstract

From a review based on 87 references, mostly from before 1970, it is concluded that both morphine and noradrenaline reduce acetylcholine output during stimulation. Magnesium excess also has an inhibitory action. Calcium excess fails to prevent the inhibitory effect of morphine and noradrenaline. Phentolamine but not naloxone depressed the effect of noradrenaline. Alpha adrenoreceptor stimulation leads to presynaptic inhibition of neurochemical transmission.
