Abstract

In 60 human liver punctates the DNA synthesis from 3H thymidine was studied by in vitro incorporation. In individual groups of diseases the percentage of labelled cells differed. In cirrhosis the absence or low number of labelled hepatocytes suggests a hyporegenerative process and a poor prognosis. The method is suitable for objectively appraising the proliferation and regeneration of liver cells and also supplementing histologic findings. (12 references).
