Abstract

O-iso-propylidene hexoses and hexoses, have been tested for their suitability in the catalytic oxidation with air of tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, furfuryl alcohol, furfural and alpha -methylfurane. The corresponding monocarbonic acid were found to form in the reaction. Yields were around 90%, in the case of alpha -methylfurane only 60%.
