Abstract

Excited states of neutron-rich Ar, Cl, S and P isotopes have been produced via fragmentation of a 48Ca beam at the GANIL, and studied by using segmented clover Ge and BaF2 γ-ray detectors in addition to the SPEG. In the present contribution the in-beam γ-spectroscopic results obtained on 40,42,44S and 46Ar are discussed and compared with the results of a recent large-scale shell model calculation. Evidence has been deduced on coexistence of spherical and deformed shapes in the 44S nucleus.
