Abstract

Highly androgenic exotic DH lines were good sources for introducing haploid induction ability into non-responsive elite lines via crossing. Transplantation of the plantlets into soil appeared as a physiological shock which resulted in a reduced number of adult plants. The spontaneous chromosome doubling rate was not very high in the genotypes examined, but 20 of fertile plants could be achieved from the cultured embryoids in the case of the best-responding single cross hybrid. The results indicate the necessity of improving the culture conditions in the plant regeneration phases and of elaborating an efficient genome doubling technique.
