Structure determination of zinc complexes of iminodiacetamide ionophores in solution and in the solid state

Abstract

It is shown by extensive NMR investigation that hexa-coordinated Zn 2+-complexes containing two tridentate iminodiacetamide ligands adopt a solution conformation with two different kinds of Zn-O bonds possessing a center of inversion. In contrast, the complex molecules are chiral in the solid state as determined by CP-MAS 13C NMR spectroscopy.
