Structure and stability of polyfulleride ions

Abstract

The relative stability of (C60n-)p (n=0-6) polyanions of various geometry were calculated with respect to the corresponding monomer ions. The stability of cycloadduct polymers decreases with increasing negative charge while that of the singly bonded polymers increases. The results are in good agreement with the experimental geometry and stability of known (C60)p and (AxC60)p polymers and give predictions to the possibility of other structures. A comparison with recent experimental findings will be presented.
