Structure-activity studies concerning effect of cholecystokinin octapeptide on passive avoidance behaviour of rats

Abstract

The effects of intracerebroventricular administration of an 80 pmole dose of sulphated and unsulphated cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8) and their fragments were tested on the latency of passive avoidance behaviour in rats. Sulphated and unsulphated CCK-8 and the COOH-terminal tetra-, penta-, hexa- and heptapeptides of sulphated CCK-8 increased the latency of passive avoidance behaviour, suggesting that the COOH-terminal aminoacids (Trp-Met-Asp-Phe-NH2) are essential for the action of CCK-8 on passive avoidance behaviour.
