Abstract

The poplar wood (Populus grandis) subjected to irradiation by UV-light for 50 h was investigated in respect to composition as well as extractability in neutral, acid and alkaline media. The obtained results are discussed in regard to changes of solubility of lignin wood component due to irradiation. The structural characteristics of the photodegraded wood sample obtained by chemical analysis and FTIR spectroscopy were compared to those of non-irradiated wood.
