Stimulated Raman scattering on anharmonical molecular oscillations

Abstract

It is shown that at stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in a medium modelled with an assembly of anharmonically interacting particles the Stokes wave intensity exhibits drastic growth at some critical gain factor and hysteretic dependence on gain factor and pump frequency. Such critical behaviour in the Stokes wave intensity explains the instability of SRS observed experimentally in a number of works.
