Abstract

This work explores a computational approach to design controllers for nonlinear plant. The approach calls for generating the plant's linear approximations over a set of grid points in the domains of the state variables, and designs the controllers for the grid point models using standard techniques. The sets of models and controllers are then consolidated together using a recent SVD-based method, resulting in an integrated fuzzy structure by which stability of the closed loop system can be readily checked. The present approach improves over a previous work which utilizes for controller design the fuzzy structure of the plant only. A numerical example is used to illustrate key ideas and results.
