Stability of perchlorate ions in acid medium: Interaction with zinc and aluminium

Abstract

The spontaneous corrosion of aluminum and zinc in the presence of perchloric acid was tested by the reduction of perchlorate ions. The stability of perchlorate ions in acid medium was also analyzed. It was found that in the presence of sulphuric acid, the reduction of ClO3- ions was inhibited. The conversion degree of ClO4- ions into Cl- was about 1-2%. The rate of ClO3 reduction was several orders of magnitude higher than that of ClO4 ions.
