Stability of doped and undoped polyacetylene over five years

Abstract

The diffusivity of iodine has been measured in pure polyacetylene films immediately after their preparation and 5 years later. The electrical conductivity of iodine-doped polyacetylene has also been measured as a function of time during the same period. Stability of the doped and undoped materials appears to be quite satisfactory for industrial applications if the following precautions are taken: (1) undoped polyacetylene is kept under vacuum at -12°C and (2) doped polyacetylene is embedded inside a protective coating and kept at 0°C.
