Stability of cisplatin containing infusions

Abstract

The stability of cisplatin containing normal saline admixture solution for infusion at various temperatures has been studied. The difference in stability between storage at room temperature and at 2-8 °C was observed based on an HPLC assay. Stored in a refrigerator, the decomposition of the drug was less than 1% on the third day, and remained under 2.6% even on the seventh day. Under room temperature the decomposition exceeded 2% on the third and was over 15% on the seventh day. Cooling the admixture resulted in a 4-fold increase of T 1/4 of the decomposition (27.5 days and 134.4 days at 22-24 °C and 2-8 °C, respectively).
