Stability of anisotropic liquid-solid interfaces

Abstract

The stability of the solidification process was studied for a strongly anisotropic material. Such materials require the generalization of the Gibbs-Thomson formula. The stability, the general equation and its specific solution for the motion of a perturbed interface were presented. It was shown that in the anisotropic case the energetically preferred plane is stable against the deformation of the surface independently of the wavelength of the perturbation.
