Spectrofluorimetric determination of individual bile acids in biological fluids: Peripheral plasma

Abstract

A micromethod is reported for the isolation and quantitative determination of individual conjugated bile acids in peripheral plasma of human subjects and experimental animals. A mild saponification procedure, extraction, thin-layer Chromatographie separation, acetylation, rechromatography and spectrofluorimetry are involved in the procedure. Results of control experiments using bile acid isotopes as internal standard and those of a simultaneous gas-chromatographic estimation of the metabolites proved the method to be suitable for clinical and experimental purposes.
