Abstract

A sorption flow injection (FI) preconcentration procedure was combined with hydraulic high-pressure nebulization sample introduction (HHPN) and with flame atomic absorption spectrometric detection (FAAS). A method was developed for on-line sorption and determination of Cr(VI) in the FI-HHPN/FAAS on-line system constructed. A PEEK loop as preconcentration unit introduced by us earlier was used for the sorption of Cr-pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate complexes. The detection limit (3a) of the preconcentration of 5 ml sample solution containing Cr(VI) was obtained as 0. 54 ng/ml. The precision was 2. 8 %RSD for 50 ng/ml Cr(VI) (N=6). As an analytical application of the method proposed we determined the Cr(VI) content of some natural samples. It was proved that the total chromium content of the samples containing large amount of organic materials can quantitatively be converted into Cr(VI) by ashing them at 800 °C in the presence of oxygen. Therefore the trace level total chromium contents of various samples in Cr(VI) form were determined after their ashing and sorption preconcentration.
