In contrast to previous suggestions, a high magnetic moment is deduced for pure amorphous iron from theoretical and experimental data. The influence of transition metal additives is estimated which explains why this value is not necessarily extrapolated from the composition dependence of magnetization determined for Fe-TM alloys at relatively high TM content. The coupling of different moments and its influence on the temperature dependence of magnetization is also discussed.
