Soft computing approach to manufacturing process planning

Abstract

In this paper a soft computing approach to the CAPP is proposed. Earlier experiences of authors revealed important features of decisive CAPP. These experiences suggest concerning the integrated paradigm of soft computing as key tool for solving the classical problems of CAPP. The paper is constructed as follows. First, the problems emerged at present day CAPP methodologies are explained. Following this, the promises of soft computing for solving these problems are analyzed. Then the decision making process at CAPP is investigated and a set of separated decisions is defined. Finally, a new approach to CAPP based on soft computing is proposed.
