Single and double ionization of helium by highly charged ions in the independent electron model

Abstract

The continuum-distorted-wave-eikonal-initial-state and classical trajectory Monte Carlo models are used to study single and double ionization of helium by highly charged ions at 1.4 MeV amu-1 impact energy. The independent electron model, applied in order to calculate transition probabilities as a function of impact parameter, is found to give a correct description of the processes within these two approaches.
