Semi-continuous fatty acid production by lipase in membrane bioreactor

Abstract

Conversion of triacyl-glycerols to fatty acids and glycerol by lipase in a scaled-up, jacketed, flat type membrane bioreactor is reported. The reaction was carried out in semi-continuous mode of operation. Based on the experiments using rape seed oil as substrate, it seems possible to realise the continuous enzymatic fat/oil hydrolysis.
