Abstract

Semiconducting V//2O//5 is used as a catalyst material. During laser attack in the damage zones, surface melting, evaporation and chemical decomposition occur. From the temporarily molten and boiling layer small bubbles are formed. During rapid cooling the molten layer is frozen into a broken-up amorphous or polycrystalline surface film and the bubbles sink. The composition of the resolidified film and the bubble walls may deviate from that of V//2O//5.
