Self-organization of neural networks: Noise-induced transition

A model for the formation and plastic behaviour of ordered neural mapping is given. A self-organizing mechanism is presented in terms of activity dependent modifiable synapses. The establishment of the "order" is in accordance with the spirit of the theory of "noise-induced transitions".
