A survey is given of a recent study concerning the deviation of the 1/E1+α epithermal neutron flux distribution from the ideal 1/E‐shape. So as to preserve the accuracy of the k0‐comparator method for standardization in (n,Y) activation analysis, it was of vital importance to work out appropriate α‐correction procedures on the resonance integrals to be used. Attention is paid to the development and the optimization of new methods for experimental α‐determination, which can be generally applied by activation analysis laboratories. The study enabled a complete α‐mapping for the 17 irradiation positions of reactor Thetis (Gent). It is found that, to a good approximation, the epithermal flux distribution in channel 9 is following the ideal 1/E‐law, i.e. α=0.
