Abstract

N-amino-2-benzylbenzothiazinium salts when reacted with aldehydes were found to undergo ring expansion reactions to give either benzothiadiazines or benzothiazines. This ambident reactivity was found to be influenced by the conjuga-tive nature of the aldehyde used.
