Abstract

Since the industrial application of Re-Pt/Al2O3 bimetallic catalysts there is the risk of contamination of metallic equipment with rhenium. The corrosion accelerating effect of ReO2 deposited onto Armco iron surface has been studied in aerated 0.5 M H2SO4 and 0.1 M HCl blank solutions and in the presence of 10 mg/l and 100 mg/l Re2O7. It has been demonstrated that rhenium significantly accelerates the cathodic hydrogen deposition, consequently the corrosion of iron.
