Rhenium as an accelerator of iron corrosion

Abstract

The corrosion accelerating effect of rhenium oxides deposited onto ARMCO iron surface has been studied in aerated 0.5 H2SO4 and 1 mol dm-3 HC1 blank solutions and in the presence of 10 and 100 mg dm-3 Re2O7. It has been shown that rhenium has a decisive effect on the acceleration of cathodic hydrogen evolution and, consequently, on the corrosion of iron.
